I would need to sit thru a sex ed class to effectively judge (say one way or another).

I would not say my child can or cannot participate when I'm not sure what exactly will be taught. For instance if oral sex and positions are taught. Forget it! If everyone's lifestyle is taught as acceptable. Forget it.

By the logic that person used, sex-ed shouldn't be bad but inapplicable and thus irrelevant.

That logic is flawed though. Sex-ed could actually be another tool in helping young people realize the dangers of underage sex and how to have safe sex. Why kill that which helps you?

Yes. I went through sex ed - and I turned out fine.

*twitch, groin scratch, groin scratch...*

Seriously though - Sex Ed classes are important, and I think as well parents need to be involved in cultivating this understanding of SAFETY and PRECAUTION with their kids as they start these classes. Parents need to reinforce what the teacher's teach, and add (if they're Christian) what moral standards they want their kids to learn as well. I don't think it's solely the teacher's responsibility to talk about sex ed, but the parent's also.

It's kinda like saying medical students shouldn't study anatomy because they'd have to look at human bodies. Purity is highly overrated and if you slip God forgives, viruses don't

Yes, It's fact that more and more teens are getting involved in sexual activity. As much as I hate to say it, I believe it is a good thing for sex ed to be teached in schools. Its important for teens to have the proper education on safe-sex. Also, teens who get pregnant in High School are more likely to have children who get pregnant in High School too.

Where does this chain stop?

Historically we've seen how well the Christian idea of purity works, it's long past the time that people need to wake up and realize that people will have sex.

Parents, schools and society need to teach that if you are going to have sex but don't want a child or an STD, both partners should use birth control. This will also severely curtail the need for abortions.

Well, first of all Sex Ed. is not only about STD's.
And are you really trying to tell me that you don't think people would know anyway?
It's just to educate you so you won't be an ignorant idiot your entire life.
Most Christians are very uneducated because they refuse to listen to things that they think will have some negative effect on their religion.
Well,if you were confident in your religion then you wouldn't have to worry about what you heard because it wouldn't effect you anyway.

I am a mother of 3 girls and I've very mixed emotion. On the one hand sometimes young people have sex. I know my sister-in-law popped out a baby at the age of 14. On the other hand waiting until marriage guarantees zero pregnancy and zero unwanted disease. A condom might try to put up a barrier against an STD. But sperm is bigger than the AIDS virus. If therefore it can leak and a girl can get pregnant, so can the HIV/AIDS virus leek.
I am sure beyond sure that many girls or gentlemen that mess around in their teen years don't have the upbringing that lets them know that sex out of wedlock is actually giving them-self away bits and pieces at a time.
Yet if a parent waits until a baby is in the picture of a teen they have waited too long to educate them. I feel strongly that if we (meaning the human race) would have followed God's plan for saving sex until marriage words like AIDS/HIV Syphilis and Gonorrhea would not be in our vocabulary today.
