christians only please. unyolked marriages?

i have seen/heard people say that God is against marriages of different faiths, and had people warn me against marrying my fiance because he is not a christian like me, he has lost his faith.. but what if we were already married, and he Then lost it. would our marriage then become sinful?

That was a way of controlling you. You would be sinful only if you think it is so. What some one else believes is their business not yours.

No, it would not be. However, it is very difficult as a christian to be married to somebody who is not a christian, thus the warning against getting married to somebody of a different faith.

If you are already married then continue to strive to remain married, no matter what your or your husband’s beliefs. It is not sinful.

If you are not married it is best to not be "unequally yoked", i.e., a marriage between a Christian and a non-believer. Have some serious discussions about this before marrying or contemplating marriage and consider which is more important to you both, a marriage or your faith. One or both will suffer in the long term if unequally yoked.

I don’t think it’s a sin to marry your finance, but it definitely isn’t wise. Search your heart, and pray. Talk to your fiance. He’s OK with you being a devoted Christian? Does he show any resentment towards your faith? Have you discussed what made him lose his faith? Respect him. But, do what’s right. No one here can tell you what’s right for you. Things like children, and future church preferences, etc. should be discussed also.

Dear Special Lady, Christians are suppose to be followers of Jesus Christ. Jesus COMMANDS ALL Christians to LOVE one another as HE loves US! There are only two Commandments; Love GOD & Love each other!

What you have written cannot be true in Christianity! Do not concern youself with HUMANS’ CRAP!

But it is sad that you addressed your message to Christians only! What of all the other peoples, hanging abuse rules around the necks of the female? All over the world, Nations beat up on the Female if she choses to marry outside of her nation.

Actually, the Bible says that the Spose becomes responsible for the mate that does not believe, in that being an example may well cause the unbeliver to believe and be saved!

Be careful of which book you read! There are versions, phamplets, excerpts, My way, Your way and American so called Bibles. All printed by different printing houses, each printing what they want or chose, there by altering what should be!

The main reason mixed marriages are discouraged is the problems that can arise over child rearing. Which church? Which schools? That sort of thing. Churches worry that the other guys will win the tug of war. But it’s usually easier in general to have similar beliefs about religion, politics, money, etc. They can’t really do anything about people changing later on. They just want you to have a better chance of staying together. Too many couples believe love will conquer any potential problems and don’t do any adequate introspection before getting married. I suspect God doesn’t really care, as long as you DO love each other without compromising your beliefs.

Why would you want to unite with someone who has different beliefs as basic & important as something like this? How we should live, what happens when we die, what should my priorities in life be, how should we spend our time & money, will we be together for eternity?

If you are living a Christian life, you would be looking for the answers to the questions (and others) in the Bible. But your husband would be looking to the world’s standards & values for answers–which surely will be different than what you know God wants for your lives. This will be an area of constant strife for you two in your lives–permeating nearly every corner of your relationship. Which is why God "recommends" against it, through Paul.

However, if you are already married, that changes things. No matter how it happened: one became a Christian after marriage, while the other did not; both were Christians at (or even after) marriage–then one fell away from the faith; or whatever–God instructs us to NOT divorce for this reason, but to stand by your mate, in hopes of them comming around to the Faith. [Read 1 Corinthians 7:9-16, especially vs. 16]

So, I suppose you are going to do what you want to do anyway, and I truely wish you the best, but this is God’s take on it, and SOME force is getting you to slow down, get advise, and take a closer look on if this major life choice is the right one for you. Which is probably why you posted your question here. You are doing the right thing in seeking more advise, I just hope you are committed enough to go with the plan God has for you, once you reach a conviction as to what that is. I really could not tell you…I only know what the Word has to say about all this. How it applies to your life & situation, is something you will have to figure out for yourself–hopefully with lots more spiritual, and not just worldly advice!

It is always best to marry someone of like faith because of the conflict of beliefs later down the road. Both of you need to study the Bible to find out what to believe and then obey the truth. If you are already married, then your vows still stick whether you believe the same things or not.
