There are as many reasons for divorce, as there are couples. It is sad to see marriages centered on a faith in the Lord, fall apart.
Personally, I think you should spend lots and lots of time getting to know a person before marriage. One or two years is not too long. Marriage is a huge step, and not to be taken lightly.
I would let the friends who are divorcing know you are there for them, any time they want to talk. Pray for them too, prayer works.

I believe a lot of people, including "Christians," marry with the idea that "if it doesn’t work out, I can always get a divorce." They are practically planning for their marriage to fail from the start. It’s too easy to get a divorce, and commitment means nothing to most people. A lot of churches are now requiring counseling before marriage; I think that is a good idea.

I think the reason is that we tend to marry only for love, rather than for commitment. Love is a crucial element, but we have to remember that love is an emotion, and emotions are fickle. Commitment is steady and carries us on those days when we love our spouses a little less than usual. If we would commit as well as love, our marriages would last much longer.

One would think that Christians would have at least a slightly lower divorce rate than non-believers, but I have never seen any statistics regarding the spirituality of divorced couples, much less those still together.
Actually, I think that even for believers, the common sense of their spirituality just does not "translate" for them into making a relationship work. Again, you’d think it would, but…
Most marriages fall apart not because of cheating or abuse, but because the parties involved were just too emotionally immature. They were too selfish and not compromising enough. Most problems can be worked out with a little give and take.

what I see as the problem with more and more Christians getting divorced is that the church is not teaching Christians how to love. the fact that there is no difference in the statistics between Christian and non Christian marriages proves that even Christians have no better Idea what love is than heathens. most of the comments I see coming from Christians here (myself included at times, yes I fall to saying something assinign at times as well) proves the same thing.
Christ’s Idea of love is far different than the heathen love we have grown up with and never corrected. if we look as Jesus’ example we see that Love is something defined by action, not something we feel in our chest. "he who has my commands and obey’s them is the one who loves me" he states. this is a tough statement because I remember a time I was powerless to obey even single commandment that I had a struggle with, yet I felt like I loved him, I could feel it in my heart. but looking again as Jesus in the Garden, he prayed three times to "let this cup pass from him" he did not relish the Idea of taking such a severe beating and then being nailed to a cross, and shamed in front of the everyone. But never the less he did it willingly, he paid the ultimate price for loving mankind, we killed him. while we were still enemies of God, he died for us. that is love defined by action. and when married there will come times when our spouces may indeed be our enemies, and this is the time when we need to display our love by dieing to our desires and SHOW our love, display it. do what is right regardless of our feelings.
