For Christians…. How is sex bad?

What part of having sex is a sin? Isn’t it like a natural thing? And like the only after marriage thing whats up with that? If we have a bond even though were not married isn’t that pretty much the same thing?
I’m Christian btw I just don’t follow a lot of rules :p
You ever seen how thick a bible is? Its huge! I can kill a man with it. Plus they talk weird in it so I can’t really make out a lot of what is said.

And Christians, we know you’ve been forgiven, and you may consider yourself born again virgins, even if you once had premarital sex. So please, everybody just answer in this format (I’ll start for example):

(this means I’m atheist and yes, I’ve had premarital sex)

Please be honest.
To the other atheists: obviously I know it’s not a sin. I was merely speaking in a way I thought would be inoffensive to the Christian group in the hopes of garnering a more honest and brief response. If I had said "We all know YOU THINK it’s a sin," then they would have started preaching instead of giving us some interesting information, i.e. "Christian, yes."

Maybe it kind of backfired on me, but I’d rather have a few atheists say, "hey, what the hell?" than have several Christians respond with paragraph after paragraph ad nauseum about how premarital sex IS a sin.

See what I mean?

I’ve met a pastor of a gay church.
He is celibate.
He has not had sex but maintains a close friendship with a male friend.
So even though he is undoubtedly gay and admits it… he does not "sin".

How can Christians label "gay" as sinful when it doesn’t necessarily include any specific action?

Only feelings that cannot be controlled?

And isn’t that rather hypocritical of christians considering the divorce rates, child molestation, incest, cheating, alcoholism and theft that goes on in the world of "heteros"?

Do you think more couples have sex before marriage or wait? I am curious do to the fact that when people are dating, the first question people have in their mind is weather or not a couple is able to keep boundaries. Getting married because you want sex is as bad a reason to get married as any and yet we live in a culture that endorses sex .If you abstain, you are looked on as strange. This can be a set up for a lot of manipulation and pressure on Christian daters. I have heard Christians use the bible as a manipulative tool to get what they want out of other believers…any insight?

Considering I’ve read Christians’ answers to questions that include things like, "I wouldn’t trust an atheist to watch my kids," I don’t put anything past anyone anymore.

I’ve been teaching for seven years. Put the math together, and that means I’ve worked with over 2,000 students. I’ve heard every opinion you could possibly imagine. And that’s JUST from teaching.

Secondly, if getting people to think is instigating, I’m proud to be an instigator. Again, all you have to do is look at my answers and questions to see I’m not interested in spreading hate. Just thought for me and everyone else.

Not all that long ago, and by no means limited to what some would call fundies, there was an attitude that women weren’t supposed to enjoy sex. If they had orgasms, that was a condition that a husband would often take his wife to the doctor to FIX. The US isn’t the only place where this kind of belief was popular.
I just wondered if there were still any people who believed this. And are there any people here who believe sex should be only for procreative purposes?

CJ, I’m not interested in what the bible says or your interpretation of it. I asked who still had those anti-sexual beliefs. My knowledge of Christianity is adequate. Apparently you are the one who is unaware that these values existed and were quite prominent in the US from the late 1800’s to as late as perhapr the 40s and 50s. They were the result of Victorian attitudes, combined with strict religiously based mores. I wasn’t making it up. I was asking if anybody still had these notions. And yes, the Puritans may also have had such strict bedroom standards, as well. Not me, for sure.
Actually, Pastorart, I am unaware of any Catholics with these ideas. The only ones I was aware of were Protestants, although it may have been as common among the Cathoilcs as well.

If a person’s spouse cheated on them, which resulted in the marriage ending, and the two people living separately while filing for divorce, would it be considered adultery if the spouse who was cheated on had sex with another person? The marriage is already physically over, but not legally. I realize that it is still wrong to have sex outside of marriage, but I just wondered if God would consider this adultery or fornication.

Everytime someone asks a question about premarital sex there are always people jumping in preaching about hellfire and brimstone and STD’s like its inevitable. Did it occur to you that maybe some people are actually smart enough to have premarital sex without getting knocked up or contracting an STD? Incidentally, these same fundies are the ones who are always preaching about abstinence education and wanting to restrict access to birth control. This kind of ignorance only increases teen pregnancy rates. Is the scripture a bit fuzzy on this subject or something?

I was told by several Christians that homosexuals are "born that way", that their same sex attractions are NOT a choice and that the only "choice" involved is whether homosexuals engage in same-sex intimacy (which would imply that they can’t just "get rid of their feelings" since the attractions part of their nature).

I was THEN told by several other Christians that same-sex attraction is a sin, that we’re all born sinful, but we can ask God to forgive us and allow us to repent (implying that same-sex attraction IS something you can get rid of, hence a choice).

Why is there so much confusion surrounding this issue? Who’s right and who’s wrong? Is same-sex attraction a choice or not!?
