Hi everyone I am writing a research paper on the Christian faith and how this specific religion influences whom they form personal relationships with. As you all know I am Agnostic and therefore do not share the same beliefs for example with people of the Christian faith, however my empathy and understanding for their religious beliefs alloow me to write such an unbias paper.
For this paper I am not looking for the people that label themselves "Christian" because their parents have a bible in their house or they used to go to bible study back in junior high, I am looking for the Christians that live their life according to their religion. I hope to find a couple of you at least and if you wouldn’t mind answering a couple questions to the degree that you feel most comfortable I would greatly appreciate it!

How does being a devoted Christian influence your personal relationships, including friendships and marriage/dating? Do you find yourself using your religious beliefs as a judging criteria for people that you might pursue a friend/relationship with? Have you been or are you encouraged by anyone who share the same religious beliefs as you to favor the pursuit of relationships with only other Christians? Do you ever find yourself "discriminating" against people with different beliefs than yourself?

Please rememeber that I am writing a research paper on my findings and I am totally unbiased to your thoughts. Your responses will remain anonymous and I would really appreciate your honesty, please don’t be afraid of offending anyone as these are to be your true beliefs. I hope these questions are not too personal for you but they get into the heart of my quest. Thank you so much!
If you do not feel comfortable posting your answers please feel free to email them to me at : summerlynn18@yahoo.com

THANK YOU SO MUCH!
*correction for the petty error…..i am writing a "paper" that is formed around opinions of the subjects that report their religious values….not a research paper, i made a mistake as most humans do and confused the wording, as i am writing a research paper as well.
*also yes i do find myself able to write with a unbias view when writing a reseach paper. thanks to hard work and motivation I am able to learn the distinction between research AND opinion pieces effectively and successfully as I am a student of higher learning and take pride in these skills.

God said to forgive, to love, to give endlessly. And I feel like I should obey that, but at what point should I stop? I feel like this relationship is way out of line. A friend who only calls when he needs something, isn’t so nice to me and has tried to convert me and insulted my faith. Its just to the point where I get really angry and it beings out some really bad things in me. What to do?

Isn’t it likely that the reality that you perceive – is imaginary? – only you have the unfortunate situation of an entire culture of support enabling you. Your entire life, future and eternity depends wholly on your belief in your imaginary friend.

I hope that you do realize that delusion is a legitimate and treatable psychological disorder…

People who are under a delusion do not know that they are, and they believe with all their heart that their delusion is real.

My experience and knowledge is based entirely on research, logic, skepticism of my own emotions and feelings. I have read all the Lewises, MacDowells and Strobels.

Yours is based on feelings first. You were told something, you believed it without researching it with proper scrutiny – you’re just lucky the Mormons or the Jehovah’s Witnesses didn’t get to you first – because, with the criteria you use to judge truth – that is, experience, emotions, feelings, intuition, "faith,"
you would have embraced the first religion to touch your heart.

These methods are the lowest criteria for truth on the planet. They are subject to grave error, as over a dozen major religions prove.

You relied on feelings FIRST, and logic second. And Christians are masters at this. They lull you in either as a small child, or they promote gifted speakers who will manipulate your emotions one way or the other (Hell, Heaven, playing on your natural angst, loneliness, drug/alcohol addiction, your susceptibility to rhetoric and romance)

THEN they have an arsenal of apologetics with only one thing motivating it – to find any answer that will pacify believers. That’s all that is needed to sustain a willing and expectant population – I know this, as many Apologetics Websites continue to knowingly publish erroneous information – even after I and others have written them explicitly about those errors! Creationist organizations are particularly deceptive.
Those answers pacified me for a while, but since I was a researcher, I had access to many things even some great apologists did not have access to. So I dug as deeply as I could. And at the bottom, when all the rhetoric and deception is stripped away, there simply is no Jesus. There is no Word of God. Sad – Unthinkable – Blasphemous to someone like you, but to one who holds truth to the highest standard, I knew. And as sorrowful and lost as I initially felt after letting go of God, eventually, as the questions to life demand answers – Buddhists will find them, Christians will find them, Muslims will find them and yes – Atheists will find them.

The only difference is, Atheists know that emotions, feelings, faith and experience are not honest appraisers of truth.

What is this beast that slouches towards Jerusalem? Can one imagine not being shackled to it?
So far, you people are really scary.. But enlightening….

I can begin to understand a lot of problems I see in America. And I weep for the future!

He just asked me out and I wanted to say yes, but I said "I’ll think about it" since he doesn’t know I’m a Christian. I’m not sure if I should say yes and tell him that I’m a Christian.

Do you think that you can have a relationship with Christ outside of religion?

…as one who never calls himself a Christian, but studies the bible and still has a close and initimate relationship with Jesus Christ does?

…or do you think that tradition, along with going to a physical church, etc, are necessities for your walk of faith?

Do you look down on or have less respect for Christains who don’t practice the faith as you were taught to?

I appreciate your input. Thanks!
.
.
I didn’t say don’t go to a physical church.

Some people’s idea of church is different than yours, however.

Some people view church as sitting on their front porch on Sunday morning in fellowship with their family members.

Church is a great thing… but is it necessary for all believers to have a personal and intimate relationship with Christ, in your opinion?
.

im 19, and a havent really had a gf yet. ive heard about times when some girl might like me and there have been times that ive had chances to talk to some cute girls, but i was younger, dumb and didnt realize it at the time, or i w8ed too late and blew it. im in community college now and its hard to meet girls up there, cuz once class is over most ppl go home or to work. most of my friends are having sex and im not. they talk about girls they’ve been with and stuff and im jealous. for lack of a better word im horny. is part of God’s plan for me too not have a girlfriend yet. i know im pose to stay pure, until marriage but its hard and i get pretty lonely at times. i mean i try to live as holy as i can. could it be that becuz i dont really hang out with the right friends that i am being punished. i sometimes swear alot but i always beg God for forgiveness. would it be wrong to pray to God for a girlfriend. whats the deal?
its not that im some type of "pussy" or loser. i know im attractive, and have been told that by females. i would ask a girl out if i got the chance, in fact i have several times; the plans jus always seem to fall through. i jus feel like im being punished. or maybe God knows that if i date i will have sex, (cuz i really want to) so he’s preventing me too date right now.

Obviously, you wait until marriage to have sex according to the Bible. But should you also wait that long to kiss. My very religious GF was originally planning to wait for marriage to kiss (that plan inevitably failed when we were together a while).
She will not go any further obviously, which is completely fine by me, but it got me wondering about what you are actually supposed to do. What is the consensus among most denominations about proper dating behavior in today’s world? This is not 20 b.c. when you just met a girl at 15 years old and married a week later…. It’s a little different nowadays.

I stopped going to church when I was twelve so I missed out on all the lectures about this… But was wondering how all the preachers are facing this. Are they just encouraging restraint or young marriage? What’s the deal? thanks, peace

If a doctor comes to you and offers you a vaccine against disease, prolonging your life by 10 years on average, will you take it? What if a few years later he wants to slow the progress of cancer cell formation and spread in your body? And a few years later wants to operate your heart to make it 100% immune to heart attacks? A few years later, a pill that would make you immune to UV radiation altogether? Then, a stem cell treatment that renewes your body cells and make your body younger, like when you were 20 or 30? Then, a complete cure for cancer? Then, an immunity from the horrible disease of the future that makes people spontaneously combust and killed half of the world population in just one week?

Will you accept the life-prolonging treatment of the doctors every time, or will at some point you say "I see where this is going and I don’t want to live forever, now leave me alone and let me die, it’s time to meet God?"

Do you think doctors really can interfere with God’s plan?
Just to answer that last comment: Yeah, plenty of people rejected outright immortality, but it seems an incremental one is accepted by all. Interesting…

"…we are delivered FROM the law…"

"no man will be justified by the works of the law in His sight."

Looks like folks don’t really understand how God DOES make a man righteous!

"He made him who knew no sin to BE sin for us, that we might be MADE the righteousness of God IN HIM."

The purpose of the law was NEVER to make a man righteous, but to point a man to the ONLY RIGHTEOUS ONE for the righteousness which God provides as a GIFT for trusting in the faithfulness of Christ.

Christians claim to have a "personal" relationship with Jesus. I find this an impossibility since Jesus has never appeared to anyone "in the flesh".

Please explain in detail (don’t bother answering if you are only going to offer some glib, three-word, canned Xian response; I’ve heard them all before) how someone can "believe" so strongly that they have a personal relationship with someone they have never met and may very well not even exist.

I may not end up believing you but I might better understand the machinations of your mind when you have explained yourselves.

To my fellow non-religionists: Doesn’t this sound like a mental illness to you? Or is it simply naïveté, like when a child firmly believes in the existence of Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy?

As always, thanks for your thoughtful responses.

Please review John chapters 16 and 17 in Spirit and in Truth.

Is the answer: "Beam me up, Jesus !!" ?

Is the Second Coming of our Sovereign Creator Father-Son Jesus Christ an ETERNAL NOW Return different than His Appearance here the first time in the flesh ?

Yes, these are deep questions worth sincere and fruitful pursuits ! Thank You Jesus !

We should stand ready to WELCOME Jesus Christ back here any and all of many ways that He chooses to Personally and Spiritually return to you and to me and to all !

Thank you my Brothers and Sisters who answer in Spirit and in Truth ! Paradise peace and certain progress in Jesus !
Some good and interesting answers so far; so I’ll extend this to one week.

To BHM: God is infinite love and so is Jesus. He is not willing that any should perish unless one were later up in Heaven to absolutely reject this free Gift of eternal life; then that one will be painlessly extinguished forever — the final death. There is no "hell" or (worse) "hell-fire damnation". Be now the divinely beloved son of God in Jesus Christ that YOU ARE ! Join in progressive work in the Family of God here on earth as well as up in Heaven.

To all to reflect on in Spirit and in Truth: It is now revealed that personality and mind-spirit relationships are TRANSMISSIBLE. Now both ways, as each normal human adult has a pure spirit Essence-portion of God within to make the instant Spirit Communion-communication up to our Universe Creator Jesus and the Holy Creative Spirit as well as the Universal Paradise Father-Infinite I AM

Our typical tendency is to desire for other people to become like us. If you are an atheist, you want people to be rational. If you are a Christian, you want people to be more faithful. The reality of the situation is that in this lifetime we will never see both groups agree. Hard Core Christians don’t become atheists, and vice versa. So my question is how can two group who have completely opposing ideologies have mutually beneficial relationships? How can we build each other up as fellow human beings in a way that doesn’t require the other group to change their beliefs? Is that even possible?

2. if you break up with your bf and awhile later you have another bf, is that a sin?
I’ve been with this guy for a week, and we haven’t kissed yet. I really really like him. His a christian, he is really sweet, he makes me feel good about myself, he makes me happy, and he loves me. I really want to be his gf and im going out with him again, and i know he is gonna kiss me this time. i’m freaking out…all these questions are popping in my head and i’m not sure of what to do. Should i follow my heart or my confused head? Should i wait for that 1 person who I’ll end up marrying? How do i know that that 1 guy wont be the wrong guy? How do i know that the man God whats me to be with, is him or not? u have no idea how confused i am.

I’m a 19 year old university student, and I’m only just beginning to get involved in serious relationships (well, more so ones that put a lot of pressure on you sexually). My question is about sexual boundaries pertaining to Christianity.

I’ve been talking to my counsellor, and he thought that now that things are getting serious, it might be a good idea to decide how far is appropriate (so that I don’t end up doing something impusive with a guy in my room at 2:00 am, while other parts of my body other than my brain are doing the thinking)

I’ve never had sex before. I was raised to believe that sex comes after marriage. However, there are a wide range of activities that don’t constitute as "sex" per se. I just need some help deciding where to draw the line (holding hands, kissing, french kissing, heavy petting, touching, oral etc).

I don’t think the bible talks of this explicitly, but I might be wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! =)
racer51: Just for your information, I haven’t touched the thumbs down button (I’m still in the process of reading the answers), the thumbs down you see are from answerers to each other. =)
