I read all the time in here that Christians claim they are not into religion, and that they don’t have a religion, rather a "Relationship" shouldn’t those who believe so do Q&A over in "Family and Relationships"?
Hi everyone I am writing a research paper on the Christian faith and how this specific religion influences whom they form personal relationships with. As you all know I am Agnostic and therefore do not share the same beliefs for example with people of the Christian faith, however my empathy and understanding for their religious beliefs alloow me to write such an unbias paper.
For this paper I am not looking for the people that label themselves "Christian" because their parents have a bible in their house or they used to go to bible study back in junior high, I am looking for the Christians that live their life according to their religion. I hope to find a couple of you at least and if you wouldn’t mind answering a couple questions to the degree that you feel most comfortable I would greatly appreciate it!
How does being a devoted Christian influence your personal relationships, including friendships and marriage/dating? Do you find yourself using your religious beliefs as a judging criteria for people that you might pursue a friend/relationship with? Have you been or are you encouraged by anyone who share the same religious beliefs as you to favor the pursuit of relationships with only other Christians? Do you ever find yourself "discriminating" against people with different beliefs than yourself?
Please rememeber that I am writing a research paper on my findings and I am totally unbiased to your thoughts. Your responses will remain anonymous and I would really appreciate your honesty, please don’t be afraid of offending anyone as these are to be your true beliefs. I hope these questions are not too personal for you but they get into the heart of my quest. Thank you so much!
If you do not feel comfortable posting your answers please feel free to email them to me at : summerlynn18@yahoo.com
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
*correction for the petty error…..i am writing a "paper" that is formed around opinions of the subjects that report their religious values….not a research paper, i made a mistake as most humans do and confused the wording, as i am writing a research paper as well.
*also yes i do find myself able to write with a unbias view when writing a reseach paper. thanks to hard work and motivation I am able to learn the distinction between research AND opinion pieces effectively and successfully as I am a student of higher learning and take pride in these skills.
God said to forgive, to love, to give endlessly. And I feel like I should obey that, but at what point should I stop? I feel like this relationship is way out of line. A friend who only calls when he needs something, isn’t so nice to me and has tried to convert me and insulted my faith. Its just to the point where I get really angry and it beings out some really bad things in me. What to do?
Isn’t it likely that the reality that you perceive – is imaginary? – only you have the unfortunate situation of an entire culture of support enabling you. Your entire life, future and eternity depends wholly on your belief in your imaginary friend.
I hope that you do realize that delusion is a legitimate and treatable psychological disorder…
People who are under a delusion do not know that they are, and they believe with all their heart that their delusion is real.
My experience and knowledge is based entirely on research, logic, skepticism of my own emotions and feelings. I have read all the Lewises, MacDowells and Strobels.
Yours is based on feelings first. You were told something, you believed it without researching it with proper scrutiny – you’re just lucky the Mormons or the Jehovah’s Witnesses didn’t get to you first – because, with the criteria you use to judge truth – that is, experience, emotions, feelings, intuition, "faith,"
you would have embraced the first religion to touch your heart.
These methods are the lowest criteria for truth on the planet. They are subject to grave error, as over a dozen major religions prove.
You relied on feelings FIRST, and logic second. And Christians are masters at this. They lull you in either as a small child, or they promote gifted speakers who will manipulate your emotions one way or the other (Hell, Heaven, playing on your natural angst, loneliness, drug/alcohol addiction, your susceptibility to rhetoric and romance)
THEN they have an arsenal of apologetics with only one thing motivating it – to find any answer that will pacify believers. That’s all that is needed to sustain a willing and expectant population – I know this, as many Apologetics Websites continue to knowingly publish erroneous information – even after I and others have written them explicitly about those errors! Creationist organizations are particularly deceptive.
Those answers pacified me for a while, but since I was a researcher, I had access to many things even some great apologists did not have access to. So I dug as deeply as I could. And at the bottom, when all the rhetoric and deception is stripped away, there simply is no Jesus. There is no Word of God. Sad – Unthinkable – Blasphemous to someone like you, but to one who holds truth to the highest standard, I knew. And as sorrowful and lost as I initially felt after letting go of God, eventually, as the questions to life demand answers – Buddhists will find them, Christians will find them, Muslims will find them and yes – Atheists will find them.
The only difference is, Atheists know that emotions, feelings, faith and experience are not honest appraisers of truth.
What is this beast that slouches towards Jerusalem? Can one imagine not being shackled to it?
So far, you people are really scary.. But enlightening….
I can begin to understand a lot of problems I see in America. And I weep for the future!
just the fact that you say its a relationship shows you follow a religion made up by people, the bible doesn’t even say it.
I know sex before marriage is out of the question, but where do we draw the line. I’ve been wondering this for a little while and I don’t want to do anything till I know the answer to this question.
